Infrastructure before expansion - not Labour's plan to ram 63,000 houses here!

Milton Keynes is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK. Labour have a plan to increase the number of houses in MK by 63,000, almost doubling our current population. This is too much and too fast. Johnny wants a more balanced approach as the current growth rate, well above any historic national targets, is causing pressure on our local service, and in particular overwhelming our NHS, causing standstill traffic and wiping out our green spaces. Johnny also opposes Labour's plans to replace the Greenbelt with the 'Grey belt' which will impact MK given our close proximity to it, and he wants to defend local consent on local developments. Let's stand up to residents - not developers!

Petition: We demand infrastructure before more expansion in MK

  • Current Your details

Milton Keynes is supposed to be a green city, but it has become one of the fastest growing urban areas in the UK. We now need to slow down and focus on existing residents first, including ensuring we protect our green spaces, allow our local NHS to catch up post pandemic and be overwhelmed and have infrastructure before expansion. We want to represent local people - not developers.

That's why we have set up a petition to send a clear message to Labour, who control MK Council.

We the undersigned agree:

  • Our green spaces must be protected from over-development or urbanisation
  • We believe any new development should be appropriate, proportionate and sustainable
  • We are against any potential plans for a 'new town' or 'new settlement' in MK's rural areas
  • We believe infrastructure must always be in place before expansion
  • We believe housing targets should be driven by demonstrable needs, not a political desire
  • We believe the cutting of affordable housing requirements is short-sighted and hurts those in most need of housing
